Downstream has sour bent

India's current crude basket comprises 59.8% of the cheaper sour variety and 40.2% of the sweet crude.

With escalating cost of sugar crude, refiners are willing to add more lemon to their concoction and see the economy work in their favour.

The downstream industry has now asked the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell to revise the ratio for sweet and Sour grades in the Indian basket to 38.6/61.4 with retrospective effect from April 1, 2007
