Global Warming - A Burning Issue

Growing demand for energy and Peak Oil threat saw the oil prices shotup to unprecedented heights. Everybody consented to the fact that days of cheap energy are over. Definitely, they are.

Just then, some stern environmentalists shredded the Peak Oil theory by predicting that earth would turn into a hot ball of fire much before the end of oil.

Undoubtedly, the facts and figures are frightening when world's mammoth economies are accelerating with 10% per annum and persisting with conventional technology and sources of energy.

Stern's 700-page report said, "Evidence showed that ignoring climate change will eventually damage economic growth. Our actions over the coming decades could create risks of major disruption to economic and social activity, later in this century and in the next, on a scale similar to those associated with the great wars and the economic depression of the first half of the 20th century".

The report said at current trends average global temperatures will rise by 3.6 to 5.4 degrees within the next 50 years or so, and the earth will experience several degrees more of warming if emissions continue to grow. It said such warming could have effects such as melting glaciers, rising sea levels, declining crop yields, drinking water shortages, higher death tolls from malnutrition and heat stress, and widespread outbreaks of malaria and dengue fever. Developing countries often would be the hardest hit.

We guess, Man would not only have to change his reproductive and consumer behavior but also transit into a new age, which will probably be called the green age, where a lot of today would be outdated.

To be or not to be... Going by the report, developing nations stand at the receiving end. They will have to pay a hefty price to go green and if they don't, colour will fade faster than white...

Similarly, it makes tankers equally vulnerable and green with barnacles...
